Proudly Made in Kenya – The Art of Glass Blowing

We are bursting with excitement in welcoming Kenya onboard our artisanal journey!

As some of you may have noticed, we have now included our Glassware section which in the next couple of months will grow to include handmade pottery and crockery too. There will be other crafts sourced from Kenya, but today, I just want to talk glass!

It has been in the pipeline, and it is with great pleasure that we showcase some of Kenya’s finest artisans that have led the way for others to follow.

Distinctive in spirit and design, Kenyan glass blowers are skilled artisans who specialise in the craft of glassblowing, a technique that involves shaping molten glass into various forms and objects using a blowpipe and other tools. In Kenya, glass blowing is often practiced by artisans who have learnt the trade through apprenticeships or vocational training programs.

These artisans create a wide range of glassware, including decorative items such as vases, sculptures, ornaments, and functional objects like cups, bowls, and beads. Each piece crafted by Kenyan glass blowers reflects their expertise, creativity, and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

All items created have been made using 100% recyclable glass.

The art of glassblowing in Kenya not only provides employment opportunities for local craftsmen but also contributes to the preservation and promotion of traditional artistic techniques. Additionally, Kenyan glassblowers often infuse their creations with elements of local aesthetics, incorporating vibrant colours and patterns inspired by the country's diverse landscapes and cultures.

Supporting Kenyan glass blowers not only encourages the preservation of traditional craftsmanship but also helps sustain local economies and promotes cultural exchange through the appreciation of their unique artistry.

We hope you enjoy the products as much as we have …

Till next time – Happy shopping!

Nanette!
